The First AmCham/Af Awards for Student Entrepreneurship were presented at a convivial ceremony that recognized the top business start-up plans developed by students in Management 460, a senior level course at the American University of Afghanistan.
“This award provides a tangible incentive to the students to really apply themselves to the competition,” said Randall Nottingham, the professor of the course for the past two years.
“The AmCham/Af is proud to sponsor these awards,” said Dr. Elspeth Smith, Executive Director. “Several members, including DynCorp, ManTech, and Rosenstock Legal made generous contributions to the effort.”
In addition to the top Three AmCham/Af awards, students received special ‘Finalist’ awards to recognize effort and ingenuity.
The top three awards demonstrated astute attention to the diverse needs and opportunities of the Afghan market. The third place winner was a start-up plan for ‘Afghan Halal Chicken,’ followed in second place by ‘Plastic Waste Management.’
“Chivana Saffron Tea” took the $500 first place award.
I know that the students appreciated AmCham’s participation,” Nottingham said. “I hope that AmCham’s support for student entrepreneurs will continue.”
