As part of the second democratic election of Directors of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan, candidates tossed their hats in the ring at a campaign event at the Serena Hotel in Kabul. Candidates had 5-7 minutes to describe their vision for the Chamber and answer questions.
Candidates provided a brief history of their businesses in Afghanistan, summarized their views on ways to strengthen the Chamber, noted the challenges, and confirmed their ability to commit time and energy to the Chamber in the coming year.
Voters will select 9 out of the 16 candidates in electronic voting that is audited by the US Embassy and by Ernst and Young.
“We are held in high esteem by civil and business professionals and organizations in Kabul,” said Elspeth Smith, Executive Director of the Am Cham, “and one of the reasons is our conduct of a fair and open election process.”
